Shukr Islamic Clothing

I started working a part-time job 3 months ago, and my biggest concern was work clothes.  I have always worn indian/pakistani salwar kameez/dresses, so when I joined work, I could not wear the indian dresses to work.

I started searching online for modest clothing and then with the help of Google, i got Shukr Islamic Clothing.  I loved the designs of the tops and pants as that is what I needed to purchase.

Shukr Onine has a wide range of tops to go with skirts and pants.  They have a lovely collection of Abayas and Dresses.

I purchased this top and this pant.  Their quality is amazing and so are the styles. You can see me wearing the top in this picture.  The pants are really long so you need to get it altered to your length only if you are a shorty like me :)

I cannot fit into my jeans right now as the size is okay but not my weight.  I did not return or exchange it to fit into it some day, iA, (the jean is my motivation) and also as per my sweet niece's advice (thank you my darling).

Got my 2nd order yesterday and I am excited to share those with you in the next post, iA.

I do not know if Shukr Online knows I exist.  All the opinions in this post are 100% mine.

Healthy Breakfast

I have a lot of weight issues, always been obese!  I need to lose at least 50 pounds to get started...phew!! I know its a lot and will take a long time for me.
I read in a magazine yesterday while waiting at the doctor's office that to lose weight we need to check our calorie count.  So basically to lose 8 pounds a month, I need to eat a 350 calorie meal for  breakfast, 450 calorie meal for lunch, and 500 calorie meal for dinner.  And a snack about 200 calories!! Now thats a lot of countings and numbers for me. With a busy schedule and kids its a bit hard to manage but I guess once I get started and jot down recipes and prepare them it may get easier, in sha Allah.

Today was my first healthy 350 calorie breakfast I made.
A simple toast with avocado and egg.

Ingredients:
1 avocado mashed.
Seasoning: lime juice, salt and pepper
A little bit of red onion (optional)
whole wheat toast
eggs

Make it the way you like and enjoy!

Home Remedy for Cold

My son has been having a bad cold for a while.  I remembered the home remedy my sister made for my daughter while we were in India a long time ago.  I quickly made a bottle of this home remedy and kept it ready to give my kiddos everyday until they feel better.

Honey has a lot of health benefits as well as cinnamon and ginger.  Our Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Make use of two remedies: honey and the Quran." - (tirmidhi) ....subhanAllah!

You will need:
Good organic honey - 1 cup
3" ginger - grated and get the juice out of it
cinnamon powder - 2 tsp
small glass bottle (i made mine in a small smuckers jam bottle)

Method: Mix all ingredients together and pour in a bottle.  It stays good for a long time.  You can refrigerate it too.

Art Party

Alhamdulillah, miss R turned 7 (wow, can't believe it).  As she is a little art lover, we decided to have her friends over at an art studio. When we went to check out the place, miss R did not want to paint instead she wanted to make a unicorn out of clay.  We went by that decision and let her friends choose whatever they wanted to make.

First we had a round of simple snacks.  I made chicken salad sandwiches, veggies tray, mixed fruits, juice, and for parents spinach pie, chips and dip. After the munching, kids were all ready to get started.

At Kidcreate Studio, we had 2 friendly art teachers who went step by step with the kids to create their beautiful creature!  It was wonderful to see them busy doing their creativity.

Miss R had her rainbow cake in front of her- the one that I made for the first time! Yup! until 1 a.m.!
I followed the recipe from youtube, I randomly picked Betty's kitchen. You can see it  here. I did a lemon buttercream frosting from here. The cake was a big hit. Kids loved all the colors in the cake. Moms and dads enjoyed it too.

The kids went home with their creativity as well as a small goody bag.

Alhamdulillah, it was a cute Art party and thank you kidcreatestudio for helping us out.

And finally, a family picture!
